Makgadikgadi/ Nxai Pans

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp is located on the western boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.  The camp, on the banks of the Boteti River (dry) is ideally situated for safaris into three protected wildlife areas of the Kalahari.

Meno a Kwena is absolutely perfectly situated. Offering safari guests the best of the Makgadikgadi Pans and Nxai Pans areas of the Kalahari.

Not to mention the mere fact that we potentially show guests, with a great deal of certainty, White Rhino – yes White Rhino too!
The area is home to southern Africa's largest wildebeest and zebra migration, all species of African predators including brown hyaena, meerkats, - perhaps the most diverse natural wildlife habitats in southern Africa, all within reach of Meno a Kwena Tented Camp!

The salt pans are a fascinating source of archaeological and historic relics in and around what was once the bed of a vast inland lake. We offer optional salt pans experience safaris that include a quad bike trip into the middle of the salt pan to sleep out in a camp set up in advance under a canopy of stars.

Climate:  Wet summer (from cool day long drizzle to hot humid localised tropical thunder storms)
Best wildlife opportunities:  Nxai Pan grasslands and pans, CKGR short grasslands, Makgadikgadi Saltpans when accessible.

Central Kalahari
Central Kalahari, a desert in name only, home to a abundance of wildlife and the San people who live there. In this region we have two lodges; Deception Valley Lodge and Grassland Bushman Lodge.

No trip to the Kalahari could ever be complete if time was not invested in learning more about the San (bushmen), who belong to the world’s oldest living culture, and the unique wildlife of the region. We operate all our activities with both a guide and bushman tracker. The bushman trackers are, arguably, the world’s best trackers.

It is important to note that both camps operate on their own private game areas – thus we share with no-one…. No day trippers , no mobile operators either.

During the summer months the Kalahari is transformed into a sea of green.
Despite the grass being very tall making it rather difficult to view wildlife – guests can still look forward to great predator sightings, thanks largely to the skills of our San trackers and our ability to operate off- road – a key to delivering a quality look at the predators, that are widespread in our areas.

A cultural experience with San Bushmen is some of the experiences that will never fade.

Moremi Game Reserve – Khwai Region

The Moremi Game Reserve covers much of the eastern side of the Okavango Delta, and combines permanent water, with drier areas – making for some startling, and unexpected contrasts.

Although just under 5 000 square kilometres in extent, it is a surprisingly diverse Reserve, combining mopane woodland and acacia forests, floodplains and lagoons. Only about 30% of the Reserve is mainland, with the bulk being within the Okavango Delta itself.

The Khwai Area at the North Gate entrance to the Moremi Game Reserve on the banks of the Khwai River is one of the best safari destinations in Botswana, with vast open floodplains bordered by mopani forests

The Khwai River, the eastern-most branch of the Okavango Borders the Moremi Game Reserve and brings water to an otherwise arid area.

This life-giving water attracts a spectacular array of animals - lion, leopard, African Wild Dog and cheetah are frequently encountered whilst elephant are common throughout the area.

Chobe National Park – Savuti Region

The Savuti has over the years developed a reputation as a prime place to view predators in Botswana, especially lion and spotted hyena.

The Savuti lies within the Chobe National Park and boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the African continent.

The Savuti Channel itself was a river, but in 1982 it abruptly stopped flowing. The event was extensively covered by various wildlife documentaries.

Chobe National Park – Chobe Riverfront Region

The Chobe Riverfront is home to an amazing variety of wildlife. What is remarkable is the sheer numbers of animals that drink from the Chobe river during the dry months, creating the largest concentration of elephants and buffalo on the planet.

The other highlight is a boat cruise on the Chobe River and watching, from the comfort of the boat, a host of wildlife come down to drink a mere few meters away
